The Power of Editing: Before and After Magic
One of the most exciting parts of any maternity photoshoot is seeing the final edited images. At Fotolilly Photography, we take pride in our editing process, ensuring that each photo is thoughtfully enhanced to bring out the best in every shot.
For Evelyn’s session, we edited two of the standout images to show the transformative power of post-production. During post production is when you find out the true vision of a photographer. Although you may not see what the photographer sees trust me when I say there is a method to their madness. For me I can see what the finished product is in my head while you may not see it at all during the session.
Here’s a breakdown of the before-and-after process for this photo
Before:
In the first raw image, Evelyn stood gracefully with a dal background, her dress billowing softly in the breeze. But as you can see the image is darkish and the dress is not full. So, we had her stand motionless as we took numerous shots.
We would then throw the dress up in the air but maintaining the same composition as to not lose the shot.
The moment was beautiful, but the lighting was slightly uneven, and some distractions—like fallen branches—were present in the background.
After:
In the edited version, we enhanced the lighting to add a golden glow that illuminated both Evelyn and the natural landscape, making the scene look more magical.
We also cleaned up the background by removing unnecessary distractions, allowing the focus to remain solely on Evelyn and the flowing movement of her dress.
We then compiled all the additional photos of the dress portions and added them into one single edited piece of Maternity artwork.
The result was a dreamy, ethereal image that showcased the elegance of pregnancy.
Through thoughtful editing, we were able to transform these already beautiful images into works of art, ensuring that Evelyn’s maternity gallery felt cohesive, timeless, and radiant.
