My Message to My Daughter
Birthdays for most of us are a celebration of another year. A moment to celebrate getting older and to show a loved one how much they mean to us.
As I celebrate another year of life for all of my daughters these moments have a much deeper meaning to me. With each of my daughters I am reminded of promises that I made to God for a change in my life. A commitment to live a better life, a promise to turn my around for the good. To surrender to his will, to leave everything on the table.
With Cielo she is my reminder to take all my worries to God, to TRUST in him and him only. To walk in faith and truly see just sit back and see his POWER. With her I really struggled with my faith, when my wife was pregnant with her we were given not the best of odds, each visit we were tested, I did my best to show a face to my wife that I wasn’t worried. I was at war inside my head with conversations I was having with God. Why?! What have I done to deserve this Lord? Why have I angered you? What can I do?
We would pray for better results every night as a family. We prayed for her. Then we would go to the Dr. appointments, and it just seemed like they would punch us in the gut. We were even told that it would be best to terminate. When they told us that we walked out and just cried in each other’s arms. We were given some time to think about that option. We didn’t need to think of that option. I went home in a mindframe to be prepared for what we need to do, how lives were going to be different from there on. And we prayed and prayed.
We were going to accept God’s fate and just trust that he would walk with us every step of the way. Then the day came, right before she was to come into this world. I shouted within my heart to myself to God, begged him and gave him my word for a change in my life. I told him that yes I may stumble, I may fail sometimes but she will always be the beacon in my life to remind me to be better.
As she came into this world, I can still hear the words in my head from my wife “Is she ok? How are her hands and feet? How is she? Is she ok? I looked at this beautiful baby girl, not only ok but the most amazing, beautiful show of the POWER of God, his PROMISE, his GLORY. With tears in my eyes, my legs wanted to give out on me and after I handed my daughter to my wife we cried and cried. I walked out as they rolled both of them into another room and fell to my knees and just balled as hard as I could and gave thanks to God. He showed and showed out and that impact has never left my thoughts.
So baby girl, Happy Birthday today as I mentioned your birthday is not just a celebration of another year of life but so much more, it is a celebration of how you made a change in my life and how you are my reminder that God will never fail me, never leave me and to walk in faith and to give it all to him and let him take the wheel.
