And sometimes those claims are exactly what they sound like.

Any photographer can say “we do everything in-house”—these three simple checks can help your family find out who is actually handling your quinceañera photos and videos.
Three Simple Questions Can Tell You More Than a Sales Pitch Ever Will

That's why we write the Quince Red Flag Series. We're not here to tell families which photographer they should or shouldn't hire. We're here to teach families what questions to ask before they hire anybody — including us.
Because the more you understand before signing that contract, the harder it becomes for clever wording, vague answers or a great sales pitch to make the decision for you.

Let's get this warning out of the way right now.
This article is probably going to put a few photographers into a very emotional state. But someone has to say it. Some has to truly care. Right?..
And as we always say around here:
If it ain't about you, then don't worry about it.
Seriously.
If your company really does everything you advertise, you're transparent about who's photographing and filming the event, you're honest about who edits the work, and your clients understand exactly what they're purchasing...
What exactly is there to be upset about?
This isn't an attack on photographers who run their businesses differently than we do. There are plenty of legitimate ways to operate a photography company.
Our issue is when the marketing language doesn't clearly match the reality the family is actually buying.
Because families are the ones left holding the bag when they don't understand what certain industry terms really mean.
And we've watched photography marketing change.
The big selling point might be lightning-fast turnaround times.
Or photographers advertising “free” sessions to get families through the door. a "Try Before You Buy" Gimmick
Or somebody building their entire marketing identity around having the cheapest package in the industry only to raise it when they get busy and drop it when they get slow like a rollercoaster.
Or those cheaper-than-dirt Save the Date sessions designed to make the initial price impossible to ignore. And then they have monthly sales like full glam shoots with this and that included. I am still waiting for them to offer to be the photographer and the DJ at the same time. lol
But businesses change. Expenses change. Pricing changes. That cheap package might eventually cost more. That “free” session might have conditions, upgrades, dress restrictions or costs attached to something surrounding it. And that incredible turnaround-time promise still leaves one very important question:
Who is actually doing all that work?
That's where Edition #5 of the Quince Red Flag Series begins.
Because today we're going after one phrase in particular:
“WE'RE 100% IN-HOUSE.”
Cool.
Then proving it should be the easiest part of the conversation. 🚩
🚩 First, What Does “100% In-House” Actually Mean?
Before we start calling anybody out on their BS, we need to make one thing perfectly clear.
When a quinceañera photographer tells a family they are “100% in-house,” most parents are going to take that exactly how it sounds: the company they're hiring is the company photographing their daughter, filming her quinceañera, handling her photographs, editing her videos and delivering the finished memories.
No mystery company behind the scenes. No random editor you've never heard of.
No third-party post-production company receiving your daughter's files after the photographers pack up and leave.
And here's the important part:
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a photography company outsourcing work if they're honest about it.
Outsourcing photo editing isn't automatically bad. Outsourcing video editing isn't automatically bad. Using associate photographers isn't automatically bad. Having legitimate remote employees isn't automatically bad either.
But don't tell Mom and Dad everything is “100% in-house” if it isn't. Don't sell something that is not accurate and down right deceptive.
That's where we have a problem.
Because “our editing team,” “our post-production department,” “our trusted editing partners,” and “our team handles everything” can sound almost identical to a family sitting across the table.
But those phrases don't necessarily mean the same damn thing.
And with photographers advertising faster and faster turnaround times, families should be asking an incredibly simple question:
How are you doing it — and WHO is doing the work?
You don't need to investigate anybody.
You don't need to stalk their social media.
You don't need to know anything about Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro or professional editing.

Why We Still Do Things the Old-Fashioned Way
Before we give you our first way to test that “100% in-house” claim, let us explain why this one matters so much to us personally.
At Fotolilly Photography, we' are proud to be old-fashioned when it comes to booking our quinceañera families.
And we're perfectly fine with that.
We don't book quinceañeras online.
We don't book them over the phone.
We don't book through email or WhatsApp.
We don't do Zoom consultations.
If you're considering trusting us with your daughter's quinceañera, we want to meet you in person. As a matter of fact that is the only way to book us is in person. Period.
When you come meet with Fotolilly Photography, you're meeting my wife and me. And our two daughters are part of our team as well.
That's our entire team.
There isn't another group of photographers waiting somewhere behind the scenes.
There aren't outsourced videographers showing up instead of us. Or people you have never met. These people may even be from a pool of talent that your photographer pulls from repeatedly to cover their events.
There aren't extra contracted photographers being rotated through events.
And there isn't some hidden overseas editing company receiving your daughter's photographs and videos after her quinceañera is over.
The people we tell you are Fotolilly Photography are the people actually doing the work.
And we want families to see that for themselves.
Is your Quinceañera photographer using terms like “EDITING PARTNERS” or “POST-PRODUCTION TEAM”?

“Are these people actual members of your photography company, or is any part of my daughter's photography or video being sent to another business or outside editing service?”
Bring Your Daughter With You
We actually encourage parents to bring their daughter to the consultation.
Why?
Because she needs to meet us too.
We're potentially going to spend one of the biggest days of her teenage life following her around with cameras. 😂
She should know who we are.
She should feel comfortable around us.
Mom and Dad should be able to sit across the table from us, ask questions, look us in the eye and decide whether we're actually a good match for their family.
And believe it or not, there's something else we normally don't try to do during that first consultation.
We Don't Try to Pressure You Into Booking Before You Leave
And trust me...
I already know there's probably some photographer or sales guru reading this thinking:
“You don't try to close them during the consultation?!”
Nope.
We don't.
We give families the information. We explain our packages. We answer their questions. We show them our work- Photography edits process and our longform video samples of most recent work. We share with them our complete step by step TRULY aparent In-House process. We explain exactly who we are and exactly how we operate.
Then we tell them:
Go home.
Talk about it.
Digest everything we just gave you.
Look at other photographers if you want to.
Think about whether we're the right fit for your daughter and your family.
And call us when you're ready.
Could we probably pressure more people into signing a contract while they're sitting directly in front of us?
Maybe.
But that's not how we want to build our business.
We'd rather build trust.
Because if we're asking a family to trust us with memories they can never recreate, we think that relationship should begin with transparency — not pressure.
And that brings us perfectly to the first test in this article.
Because the same old-fashioned practice we've followed for years happens to be one of the easiest ways for a family to start testing a photographer's “100% in-house” claim.
This is especially important when a photographer is also advertising things like extremely fast turnaround times. Maybe they really are that efficient. Maybe they've built an incredible workflow that allows their own team to photograph, film, edit and deliver everything quickly. If that's the case, fantastic. But families should still be able to ask a very basic question: How are you able to turn everything around that quickly, and who exactly is doing all of that work?
The same goes for phrases like “our editing team,” “our post-production department,” “our videography team” or “our professional editing partners.” Those phrases may describe completely legitimate business arrangements, but they don't automatically mean the people doing that work are employees sitting inside that photography company. That's why the in-person meeting matters. You're beginning a conversation about what “in-house” actually means to them, instead of assuming their definition is the same as yours.
Did your Quinceañera photographer offer to MEET YOU IN PERSON before you booked?
🚩 TEST #1: Schedule an In-Person Meeting
The easiest way to start calling BS on a “100% in-house” claim? Ask to meet the people who supposedly make up that in-house team.
This first test is ridiculously simple because you don't need to know anything about photography, videography, editing or how a photography company operates behind the scenes. You don't need to accuse anybody of outsourcing, and you definitely don't need to walk into the meeting trying to catch somebody in a lie. Simply ask for an in-person consultation before you book.
If a photographer is advertising themselves as 100% in-house, this gives you an opportunity to sit across the table from the company you're considering hiring and start understanding exactly what that claim means. Who owns the company? Who normally photographs the quinceañeras? Who handles the video? Are those same people actually going to be available for your daughter's date? Are there associate photographers, contracted videographers or other people who may be sent in their place?
And don't get distracted by the beautiful albums, highlight films and sales presentation. Those things matter, but you're there to learn about the people behind the work too. If you're potentially spending thousands of dollars with a company, there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to know who you're actually hiring.
And let's make something very clear: a photographer preferring Zoom, phone consultations or online booking doesn't prove they're outsourcing anything. That's not the point of this test.
The red flag starts appearing when a company makes a strong marketing claim about having an entire in-house operation but becomes vague, defensive or unwilling to explain who actually makes up that operation when a family asks.
So Test #1 isn't about catching somebody yet.
It's about getting yourself in the room and starting the conversation.
Because once you're sitting across from the photographer and they've explained that wonderful “100% in-house team” to you, we're going to make Test #2 incredibly simple:
Cool. Now give us their names. In writing. 🚩
Will your photographer give you the names of EVERYONE photographing, filming and editing your Quinceañera?
🚩 TEST #2: Get the Names — In Writing
Want another easy way to call BS on a “100% in-house” claim? Stop accepting answers like “our team” and start asking exactly WHO will be handling your daughter’s Quinceañera photography, video and editing.
Now that you are meeting with your Quinceañera photographer in person, it's time to get more specific. Before signing a Quinceañera photography contract, ask for the names of the actual people who will be involved with your daughter's celebration. Also make sure everyone that is part of that process is at this initial meeting. This is the fun part, either they show up or fess up. It's up to them and not you, you are not the one looking for clients.
Start with the event itself. Who is going to photograph my daughter's Quinceañera? Who is going to film it? If you're meeting with the photographer you're expecting to see on the day of the event, great. But if the company uses associate photographers, contracted photographers, additional videographers or other members of its photography and video team, ask who those people are too. You need names, you want names and you want them to provide that to you.
Then ask the question families sometimes forget:
Who is going to edit everything afterward? BOOM!
Who will handle your daughter's Quinceañera photo editing? Who will edit her highlight video or full feature film? Who handles the color correction, retouching and photo and video post-production after the celebration is over?
Don't settle for “our editing team handles that.”
Don't settle for “our post-production department takes care of it.”
And if you're told “we have professional editing partners,” that's a perfect opportunity to ask who those partners actually are and whether they are employees of the photography company or an outside editing service. And tell them to be present during the meeting, Call them out on their BS 100%.
Remember, we're specifically testing a company that has chosen to advertise itself as 100% in-house. If a photographer openly tells you they use outsourced photo editing, outsourced video editing, freelance editors or third-party post-production, they're answering your question. You can decide whether that business model matters to your family.
If a photography company is boasting about shattering records of fast turn around times with their so called In-House editing team dont you think they would want to meet you in person to show this wonderful amazing turn-around experience that is shattering world records, curing cancer and creating global peace deals ? lol smh
All joke aside this is what our industry is seeing more and more of. The cloak and dagger trick to make someone think that they are doing exactly what their cliens are wanting of them, over promising and yes delivering services...that they never touched at all. I think as you read more of this you are understanding how deceptive this practice is and how it potentially can cause alot of harm to a trusting family.
If you're being sold 100% in-house Quinceañera photography and videography, asking for the names of the people doing the work shouldn't suddenly become complicated and wanting them to show their faces to a potential client is not too much to ask for either. I bet they won't unless they zoom them overseas while you are there.
Get Those Names in Writing
An email works. A written proposal works. Your Quinceañera photography and video contract is even better.
You want to know who you're expecting at the event and who you're trusting afterward with your daughter's photographs and video. If the photographer tells you one person is photographing, another is filming and somebody else is handling the editing, there shouldn't be anything unreasonable about asking for those names and responsibilities to be documented.
This also gives families an opportunity to ask another important question before choosing a Quinceañera photographer in Dallas–Fort Worth: What happens if the company books another Quinceañera on the same date?
Will the people whose work you were shown still be at your daughter's event? Could an associate photographer or contracted videographer be substituted? Does the contract allow the company to send somebody else? These are the kinds of questions to ask a Quinceañera photographer before booking, because finding out on the day of the celebration is a little damn late.
Make It Even Easier: Bring Our Photography Transparency Declaration With You

Now, let's be clear about something. A photographer isn't legally required to fill out our Photography Transparency Declaration just because you hand it to them.
But you're not required to give them your business either. 😂
IF they want your business and if they are who claim they are and 100% In-House then why the hell not fill out your form. Right? Think about it
If “100% in-house” is part of the sales pitch being used to convince your family to book, there's absolutely nothing wrong with responding:
“Great. Then we'd like you to document exactly who will be handling our daughter's memories before we sign the contract.”
That's exactly why we created this download. We're not using it to tell families which Dallas–Fort Worth Quinceañera photographer they should hire.
We're giving parents a tool that can help them determine whether the photography company they're considering actually operates the way its marketing says it does. This tool also gives the power back to the consumer and despite whatever photography jargon terms are used they are protected from any un-wanted deciet.
A photographer who outsources can simply say they outsource. A company that uses associate photographers can identify its associates. A photographer who works with an outside photo editing or video editing company can disclose that relationship.
There's nothing complicated about it.
But if somebody spent the entire consultation proudly selling Mom and Dad on their “100% in-house Quinceañera photography and video team,” and suddenly things get a little uncomfortable when you ask them to identify that team in writing?
Well...
That's exactly the kind of Quinceañera photographer red flag this series was created to help families recognize. 🚩
And now you've done something very important. You've met the company. You've asked who will photograph and film your daughter's Quinceañera. You've asked who will handle the photo editing, video editing and post-production. And you've asked them to put those names in writing.
Which brings us to Test #3.
Because if they just told you all of those people are truly part of their in-house team, we have one final ridiculously simple request:
Perfect. We'd like to meet them. 😂🚩
Watch their soul leave their body as you request that and they know very well their editing partner is in India or some other country.

If they say everyone is truly 100% IN-HOUSE, would they let you meet the people who will actually handle your photos and video?
🚩 TEST #3: Ask to Meet the “100% In-House” Team
Here comes the easiest BS detector of them all: if your Quinceañera photographer says the photographers, videographers and editors are truly in-house, ask those people to join the meeting. 😂
By this point, you've already done the hard work. You've scheduled an in-person meeting with the Quinceañera photographer, you've asked who will actually photograph and film your daughter's celebration, and you've gotten the names of the people who will handle the Quinceañera photo editing, video editing and post-production.
Now comes our favorite part.
Ask to meet them.
Seriously. That's it.
If the photographer tells you, “We have our own in-house editing team,” simply respond with something like, “That's great. Since we're already meeting in person, we'd love for the photographer, videographer and the person who will be editing our daughter's photos and videos to join us for a few minutes so we can meet everyone handling her memories.”
You're not accusing anybody of outsourced photo editing. You're not claiming they're using an overseas editing company. You're not questioning whether their fast turnaround times are legitimate.
You're simply asking to meet the team they just told you exists.
And this is where families need to listen carefully to the answer.
Maybe the photographer says, “Absolutely.” Maybe the entire team isn't physically available that particular day, but they're willing to introduce everyone, explain where they work, identify their roles and arrange another opportunity for you to meet them. Great. That's transparency.
But what happens when a company has spent its entire sales presentation talking about “our photographers,” “our videographers,” “our editing team,” “our post-production department” and how everything is 100% in-house, but suddenly nobody on that supposed team can be identified or introduced?
That's when Mom and Dad should start asking more questions.
Is your photographer advertising EXTREMELY FAST TURNAROUND TIMES without clearly explaining who is doing all that editing?
“How are you able to deliver our photos and video this quickly, and exactly who will be involved in the editing and post-production process?”
And Here Comes the Fun Part 😂
Let's say the photographer has been hammering home how quickly they deliver finished Quinceañera photos and videos because they have this incredible in-house editing operation.
Perfect.
Ask:
“Can the person who will actually be editing my daughter's photographs and videos join this meeting?”
Then let them answer.
Don't argue.
Don't accuse.
Don't help them answer.
Just listen.
Maybe they're legitimately unavailable. People have schedules. Remote employees exist. Someone working from home can absolutely still be a real employee of a photography company. We're not pretending otherwise.
But if the answer suddenly turns into a maze of “editing partners,” “trusted professionals,” “our post-production network,” “remote specialists” or somebody who apparently works for the company but can't be identified, that's when you go back to Test #2:
“Okay. Who exactly employs them, and can we get that information in writing?”
Remember what you're testing.
You aren't trying to determine whether outsourcing is bad.
You're determining whether “100% in-house” is true.
Funny How One Little Question Can Change a Sales Pitch
And yeah, this is probably the part that's going to hurt some feelings. 😂
Everything can sound amazing when nobody asks who's actually behind the curtain. The company has a huge team. They handle everything themselves. Their turnaround times are lightning fast. They've got photographers, videographers, editors and an entire post-production operation ready to take care of your daughter's memories.
Then Mom asks:
“Awesome. Can we meet them?”

If that one simple question suddenly turns an easy conversation into a complicated one, pay attention.
And if all of a sudden the date you were discussing isn't looking quite as available as it did five minutes ago...
Well, we'll let you draw your own conclusions. 😂
We're not telling families that one awkward answer proves somebody is lying. We're telling families to ask another question whenever the answer doesn't match the marketing claim.
Because choosing a Quinceañera photographer in Dallas–Fort Worth shouldn't require Mom and Dad to become private investigators.
